Current Gallery: community ( piece)
Faces and bodies constitute a community, as they interact in various ways. They emerge from the shapes and colors. My earliest paintings in this gallery involved only markers. I would simply make a curved line to separate community from environment and add different colors. The curve would feature loops suggestive of faces. The next group were done with a flair pen to start: I drew a curving line that could turn on itself and was much more intricate. I went very slolwly, picking up faces and bodies. I would see them emerge under the curve as I drew. There were no colors on this first draft. On the second pass, I added the environment, with vivid colors. I later scanned them to my computer and did more to the environment. In the past year, I added some new ones, a bit more abstract (light communuity, for example). The focus in these paintings is thus more on content, withthe compositional framework more or less for all of them. The content is rather open-ended: communities within environments. This allows the viewer to make new connections each time, between the general theme and its manifestation in a given picture.
