Current Gallery: black_badges ( piece)
This series of ink drawings reflects my desire to push the visual qualities of text, and to transform short phrases into powerful images. I view my work as a new type of graphic poetry, putting a face to everyday thoughts and emotions. Some of the drawings are silly, others serious, but each captures a brief thought that came and then went and is now alive on paper. It is capturing these thoughts that interests me. Each drawing resembles either a coat of arms or a church window (depending on the orientation) and thus reinterprets the use of this frame, outside of the usual military or religious connotations. Instead of the heroic or biblical references often seen within this frame, I've chosen to give my own voice room to breathe. I encourage you to do the same, by approaching me with your own short phrases. I love doing custom work, and am open to a variety of different approaches. My website can be reached at www.grinandgrit.com This gallery is for solid black versions of all of these drawings, though the images can also be viewed with a bevel, which gives them added depth, in my other galleries. Feel free to contact me with any questions, and enjoy!
