The People Concern's Studio 526 (formerly Lamp Arts Program) Photography Project: Skid Row Through the Lens of Homelessness LAXART Gallery Reception July 12, 2013 The studio is a arts and cultural platform in LA's Skid Row neighborhood, with many participants who are homeless and formerly homeless. The talent of the artists in the studio is evident in their captivating photographs. Beth Stirnaman, a Southern California based photographer worked with studio's coordinator, Hayk Makhmuryan, for six weeks to give an opportunity for folks to share a normally unseen perspectives of the city. The class provided a creative outlet for the students as well as an opportunity for them to share their unique stories and provide an insider's view of Skid Row neighborhood. Fifty percent of the proceeds of the sales will benefit the individual artists with the other 50% going back to The People Concern. We are grateful to Beth Stirnaman and Samy's Camera for their donated time and equipment to add an outlet for the voice of people living in Skid Row.
